Glass Experience Day Course in Worcester

Glass Fusing, Stained Glass & Enamelling in 1 Day

Other separate classes available:

3-in-1 Glass Experience Day

Stained glass for beginners workshop in Worcester

As far as I'm aware, this is the only place you can get a taster of 3 different glass techniques in 1 course! In the day you will learn the basics of fused glass, stained glass and enamelling and make your own pieces. The course is aimed at beginners (I am still a novice myself in stained glass) but it is also fine if you've done some fusing or enamelling before.

The cost of the course includes all materials and equipment required (please bring your own dust mask if you have one) and a delicious buffet ploughman's lunch with tea/coffee throughout. You can aim to make approximately:

  • 2-3 pieces of fused glass including 1 larger item: coaster/sun-catcher,
  • 1 hanging stained glass panel of 3-4 rectangular pieces and
  • 3 pieces of enamelled copper jewellery.

I will fire the fused glass pieces for you after the course but you can take away your own stained glass and enamelled pieces on the day.

Costs for the whole day (approx 10-3.30pm and lunch provided - see below for lunch details!) are £190 for 1 person*, £350 for 2 people booking together or £440 for 3 people together  - please get in touch to arrange (gift vouchers are available by email). *The course requires a minimum of 2 people to run so if you are an individual wishing to book, we will set a potential date for you and invite another to join you. However, if you prefer to book the day for a 1-1 course then that would be £275 by BACS (please contact me). If you are booking as 2 people or 3 people together your booking is private and you won't be joined by others (you might meet another course over lunch perhaps). This course is mostly run on weekdays (limited weekends are also available, especially earlier in the year) and will be from 10am-3.30pm. This workshop is limited to 4 people max and age 13+ (U16s accompanied by paying adult) - we will be using a soldering iron and very hot kiln, so a steady hand is useful!

A recent review: "This was the best craft course we have ever done! We took part as a family of three with a teenager. We have tried several things before but never glass, so we thought the three element course would suit us well. Everything was perfect. Sarah communicated well before the day so that we fully understood where to park. We were met with a coffee and we made our way to the delightful workshop. Sarah is an excellent teacher (and I say that as a professional educator of adults myself). She explains things perfectly, gently points out if you are going off track, allows you full freedom to design your own pieces and is there to help whenever you need her. The equipment is excellent and the range of materials is outstanding. Unlike on some other craft courses, Sarah is generous with the materials and provides silver or copper findings for the jewellery. I love how Sarah let us do all the steps ourselves including putting things in and out of the kiln. In the middle of the day we stopped for an absolutely delectable lunch. This was ploughman’s style including lovely carved ham, cheeses, pate, salad, breads and tray cakes. Throughout the rest of the day, coffee, tea and cordial is frequently offered. The atmosphere was easy going but safety was a priority at all times. We came away relaxed having had a lovely day as a family and fully intending to return to do the pottery day next time. Thank you Sarah for a lovely day! "

Delicious lunches available with our day courses

Our legendary lunches with whole-day courses!

Word of our lunches that we provide for our whole-day courses has spread far and wide! We have had people approach us to do a course who specifically want to do a whole day courseinstead of a half-day because of the lunch they've heard about!

I try to provide produce from our allotment when in season and make things like home-made salads, Spanish tortilla and cake and we buy lovely breads and cheeses, pate, ham etc. My own chilli jam and elderflower champagne (non-alcoholic!) are usually available too.

We are very informal - you all help yourselves in the kitchen and can go back round again whenever you like! We try to cater for most dietary requirements if you let us know in advance too.

Accommodation near Worcester - some links to local short stay rentals where you can stay overnight nearby when doing our classes.

Here are reviews from recent learners:

"Hi Sarah and Chris, I wanted to say a special thank you for the sessions yesterday. I really had a wonderful time doing both the glass fusing and the pottery. You were very welcoming and are fantastic teachers...the classes didn't feel like "just" an introduction or taster; rather I left feeling really empowered and as though I'd been solidly exposed to the first steps in learning and understanding both these new crafts. Both experiences were more than I could imagine. I really am quite grateful for the care and attention you gave me in both sessions. (Also the lunch was lovely! - especially the fab Greening potatoes!). And best of luck to you both going forward. You both really made me feel quite special and made my day. All the best, until we meet again!"

"Hi Sarah, I just wanted to say thank you so very much for a lovely morning. It was fantastic for mum and I to finally spend some time together but your care and patience made it extra special. We loved seeing some of your gorgeous work and having a go at some too!!  I am sure we will soon be back for another go! Thank you again. We look forward to picking up our creations soon."

"Out of all our activities this summer, this was the best experience for the whole family - even our teenagers! To try 2 crafts together is a great opportunity and great to support local businesses in Worcestershire. And the bonus of making our own pieces to give us memories of the day. Highly recommend."

"I have had a brilliant afternoon, thank you so much and I'm looking forward to seeing my four pieces fired. Your safety precautions re., covid 19 are first class ..sanitizer, face masks, etc., so no problems at all. Only problem was I couldn't give you a hug for a lovely afternoon 😏"

"Sarah's course was like the alchemy of her glasswork; simple, brilliant and fun! Her attention to detail, kindness and generosity with her time and knowledge made the course such a wonderful experience. With Sarah's guidance it seems I'm quite creative. Who knew!! Cannot wait to see how everything else turns out and look forward to the next course in August!"

"There were plenty of different resources to use, not just glass, so we had a good range of colours and items to be able to blend into our pieces. The atmosphere was relaxed and encouraging. Sarah was good at guiding whilst encouraging us to do what we wanted - not what she thought we should do. This must be a fine balance and I think she did this well. The two hours flew by. I would thoroughly recommend this course to those who are novices to those who have dabbled a little too."

"The instructor was very knowledgeable, amenable and helpful, her explanations were clear. A very creative course: I had a great feeling of achievement by making a coaster, a pendant and for extra fun - a cocktail twirler!! Lovely items on display to inspire and give you ideas to further boost your creativity.
I would recommend this course."

"Really enjoyed my starter lesson, which was a gift from the husband. Sarah was very friendly and welcoming, and the studio was lovely to work in. Lots of different materials to use, and Sarah described everything really well. I'd more than happily go back again and have another go, to try out different ideas. Looking forward to seeing my finished pieces!"

"Sarah is a great teacher, allowing free reign of her amazing workshop to use a wide range of materials to make a number of glass items. The two hours went really quickly and I came away with creations that I can put on show. Brilliant value and highly recommended"

"I found you by searching for Things to do near Malvern for our holiday and your pottery and glass workshop looked like relaxed fun for the range of ages in our family group and perfect that we could have it as a private booking, just for us. We weren't disappointed! Fantastic fun for us all and we all enjoyed creating pieces that we'll cherish with our memories of the holiday. Thank you so much for the personal touches that make it such a unique experience! We highly recommend!"

"I had such a brilliant time, worth every penny, even though my efforts were not particularly artistic. I'd definitely like another go and would recommend to anyone."

"What a great way to spend the afternoon. Thanks Sarah for teaching us it was great fun... Can't wait to see the finished article.."
